Editorial Policy

Publication mandate

AI News Africa's mandate is to report material AI developments across Africa accurately and promptly. We cover all 54 African countries and all sectors in which AI is having or may have a significant impact: government and policy, research, technology companies, startups, infrastructure, enterprise adoption, education, and skills.

"Material" means newsworthy to the professional AI and technology community — a new funding round, a published research paper, a government policy announcement, a significant product launch, a regulatory development. We do not cover incremental social media activity, unverified rumours, or developments that cannot be sourced.

The five questions

Every published article must answer:

• What happened? A factual account of the development, not speculation or opinion.
• Where? The country or countries involved.
• Who is involved? The organisations and individuals concerned, named accurately.
• Why does it matter for Africa's AI ecosystem? The significance of the development for the continent.
• What sources support it? Specific, traceable sources — not general assertions.

If any of these questions cannot be answered reliably, the story is not published.

Source standards

AI News Africa prioritises primary sources: the organisation or individual directly responsible for the development being reported. Primary sources include official announcements, press releases, published research papers, official regulatory filings, government publications, and verified statements from named officials.

Secondary sources — reputable media reporting, industry analysis — may be used to contextualise or corroborate primary source material. Secondary sources alone do not meet our publication threshold.

We do not publish statistics, figures, or claims that cannot be attributed to a named, traceable source. Fabricated or estimated figures are not used under any circumstances.

What we do not publish

• Rumours or unverified claims, regardless of how widely circulated.
• Unsupported allegations against named individuals or organisations.
• Fabricated or unattributed statistics.
• Speculative claims presented as established fact.
• Rewrites or scrapes of third-party articles — all AI News Africa content is independently written.
• Stories for which a reliable primary or credible secondary source cannot be identified.
• Duplicate coverage of a development already reported without material new information.

Independence

AI News Africa's editorial decisions are made independently. Coverage is determined by newsworthiness and source availability, not by commercial relationships. Advertising and sponsorship are structurally separated from editorial. No advertiser or sponsor influences coverage decisions.

Source provenance and auditability

Every published article retains an internal record of: the source URLs consulted; the primary source identified; the verification sources used; the retrieval timestamps; and the rationale for the publication decision. This audit trail is preserved indefinitely.

Source URLs are published alongside each article so readers can consult the underlying sources directly.

Corrections

We are committed to correcting errors promptly and transparently. Our corrections policy is published separately.

Raising a concern

If you believe a published article contains an error, please contact us with the specific claim you believe to be incorrect and the evidence supporting your position. We review all submissions promptly.
